Best Highlight.io Alternative for Error & Log Monitoring (2026)
Highlight's standalone service shut down in February 2026. If you used it for errors, logs and traces, here is what to move to, and what you will not get back.
Why teams switch from Highlight.io
- 01Errors, logs and traces in one place: the same core workflow Highlight users relied on, without session replay (see the FAQ below, we are upfront about it)
- 02OpenTelemetry-native: FlareLog accepts standard OTLP/HTTP JSON at /api/v1/logs and /api/v1/traces, so your instrumentation is not tied to us, and moving away later means changing an endpoint
- 03Works across Node, Next.js, Vercel, the browser and Cloudflare Workers with one SDK
- 04An MCP server so Claude Code, Cursor or Lovable can read production errors and traces directly instead of you pasting stack traces
- 05Cost burn alerts, including a daily budget alert that counts AI-call spend
- 06Public, flat pricing: free for 10,000 logs a month, Pro at $19/month for 1M logs and 90-day retention
How to migrate from Highlight.io
Highlight's SDKs sent data to Highlight's own endpoint, which no longer accepts it, so the first step is replacing the SDK. Install @flarelog/sdk and call flarelog({ apiKey }) in place of the Highlight initialiser, or point an OpenTelemetry exporter at FlareLog's OTLP endpoint with your project key. In Next.js, add the onRequestError hook so uncaught server errors carry their digest. Typical migration time is 15 to 30 minutes for errors and logs. Historical data cannot be imported, and Highlight's session recordings have no equivalent.
FAQ
Does FlareLog have session replay?
No. Session replay was one of Highlight's headline features and FlareLog does not record user sessions. FlareLog covers errors, logs, traces, alerts, cost monitoring and AI debugging. If session replay is essential for you, look at a replay-first tool; some teams pair one of those with FlareLog for error and log monitoring.
Is Highlight.io still running?
The hosted, standalone Highlight.io service ended on February 28, 2026, after LaunchDarkly acquired the company in April 2025. Customers were directed to LaunchDarkly's Observability product. The open-source repository remains available, but it is no longer maintained by the original team in a way you can rely on for support or security fixes.
Can I self-host FlareLog?
No. FlareLog is a hosted service. If self-hosting is a hard requirement, look at open-source, self-hostable tools; the OpenTelemetry instrumentation you choose today keeps that option open for the future.
Can I bring my Highlight history across?
No. There is no importer, and the hosted service that stored it has ended. Start fresh: your retention window begins when your first logs arrive.
What does it cost?
Free for 10,000 logs a month with 7-day retention and email error alerts. Pro is $19 a month for 1,000,000 logs, 90-day retention, cost burn alerts and Slack or Discord webhooks.
